What is Taxi Insurance?
Motor insurance is required by law for any vehicle used or kept on a public highway. Taxi Insurance is required when the vehicle is used for carrying passengers for hire and reward. There are two different types of taxi insurance. The first is public hire which means the customer can be picked up off the street and the best example of this is the black cab in London. The second type is private hire and this means it’s all pre-booked and already arranged with the customer where to be picked up from. Now for both types, all vehicles must be plated to the licencing authority.

What other policies should I consider?
When buying a taxi policy with ourselves, you may want to add additional products to your policy. We do offer a breakdown cover, legal cover and public liability. The public liability is a separate policy which runs a side your normal policy. For a small premium, you can either have £5 million or £10 million worth of public liability. The breakdown cover that we offer ranges from £99 to £119. Both of these policies will cover you throughout the UK and because it’s a specialised breakdown policy, it will also cover your passengers to be transported to their destination of choice. The legal cover that we provide is £35 for the year. This covers you up to £50,000 of legal expenses subject to a non-fault accident with a traceable third party. This will assist with things such as getting you a like for like vehicle for the duration that your vehicle is being fixed for and this is usually within 24 hours.

If you chose to pay by direct debit, we would require a deposit and a facility to set up a direct debit instruction on your account.
Is there an excess on my Taxi Insurance?
Depending on the type of policy that you would like, most of our customers go for comprehensive cover. So on this, you will have a compulsory excess of £250 to £350. However you can reduce your premium by putting a voluntary excess on. So you could have a whole policy excess of £600 rather than just the £350 and this will bring your premium down. Some other people tend to go with third party, fire and theft to keep their premiums low and you will usually get a compulsory excess of £350.
What about discounts for new taxi drivers?
Yes, we can offer introductory discounts for new drivers if you are a new badge holder and hold private car bonus; if it’s being used at the moment or not. If you have had a badge for many years and you have been a named driver on a taxi fleet company, we will be able to offer you a discount on that as well.
How many drivers can I have on my policy?
The majority of our policies are either insured only or named drivers but you can have any driver policy if you wish but your insurance premium will increase when you add drivers onto the policy. Your quote will depend on the number of drivers, their age and also their no claims history.
